Founded in 1984, the Pan Arab Federation of Societies of Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Management (PAFSA) is a scientific society which brings together the National Societies of Anesthesiologists of all the Arab countries.

This Federation aims to raise and maintain the standards of practice of anesthesia, intensive care and pain management in the countries within the region.

Its main objectives are to disseminate information, publish regional practice guidelines, promote education and training and support research in the field of anesthesia, therefore ensuring the highest quality and safest care deserved by every patient.

The newly elected PAFSA Executive Committee is very active through various sub- committees, planning educational programs such as congresses, expert meetings, refresher courses etc…. as well as defining regional practice guidelines.

The PAFSA has been recently registered in the Arab Medical Union and we are finalizing our strategic plan for the next 4 years along with a new edition of the PAFSA bylaws.

In addition to the reknown Pan Arab Congress of Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Management, held every two years in one of the Arab countries, the  PAFSA Education Committee is working to establish refresher courses, seminars and workshops, all of which I will hopefully announce to you very soon.

I also invite you to follow the publication of our own regional guidelines by the PAFSA Quality and Safety Committee.

Finally, as you can see, a new and interactive website has been designed by the PAFSA Website and Publications Committee. I am sure it will be the best platform for all of us to communicate, learn, share experiences and be continuously up-dated on new publications and researches in our field, through the official Journal of the PAFSA, the “Anesthesia, Essays and researches”, and also through many articles published in various international journals.

So, I invite you to spread the news around you to the arab colleagues who are all invited to visit this website as often as possible as I am confident that it will meet their expectations.
